NINE CIRCLES
If you have read my previous articles you would have noticed that the phrase “Nine Circles” is of discussed a lot of times and is of great importance on the table of Geometry Dash. Weather its demon list or is the regular levels the phrase Nine Circles is frequently used. It is because of its importance in the prosper of the game. Lets have a brief yet conclusive debate on the the levels called Nine Circles.
Intro to Original Nine Circle:-
Nine Circles is a 1.9/2.0 Hard Demon created, verified and published by Zobros. Nine Circles is the second most downloaded and liked level that is not featured in a map pack, gauntlet or in Geometry Dash World, and one of the most iconic levels in Geometry Dash, receiving acclaim for its gameplay, design, effects and difficulty. Nine Circles and its design inspired many other users to create levels using similar visual effects, gameplay, and structuring, referred to as Nine Circles levels.
Nine Circles is Zobros’ first original level. It utilizes 1.9 design and effects, especially prevalent in its now-iconic stroking wave section. Nine Circles is considered one of the most influential levels in Geometry Dash. Sometime after its upload, the creator mkComic released Fairy-dust, a pink-themed version of Nine Circles, agreed as the likely level that started the Nine Circles trend.
Game-play:-
The game-play shown below is played by NEXUS(GD). It has a total of 35 lac views and just by appearance the level looks a lot difficult to conquer and highly difficult.
User Coins:-
This level contains three user coins, all requiring moderate skill to obtain. The second coin is arguably the hardest one to get by a significant margin.
- The first coin is located in the ball segment. The player must skip a yellow orb, land on fake spikes on which the coin lies and switch their gravity to get back on course.
- The second coin is located in the wave section. When the player is an upside-down wave, there is a coin on top of a saw-blade. To collect it, the player must avoid the regular route and have precise timing to not crash into the saw-blade. Upon getting the coin, the player must click once before clicking and holding a second time to get out of the danger zone.
- The third and final coin is located in the final cube section. Hitting the edge of the second-to-last pad and bouncing on the orb in the last second shoots the cube far enough from the final pad. The surrounding spikes disappear while the coin appears on screen with a message from Zobros saying “NOICE”.
First Failures:-
- Razing717 failed at 93%.
- BackLash failed at 93%.
- Bycraftxx failed at 94%.
- Emerald crashed at 94%, which led to her giving up on the level, and she still has yet to return to it.
- Flub failed at 94%.
Facts:-
- The password for the level is 121214.
- The level contains 14,894 objects.
- The level is 1m 32s in length.
- The level was ranked #3 in GDToday’s 100 Greatest Levels of All Time list.
- The level was easier when it was first created, but then Zobros updated the level to make it harder before reverting it to the original version. Most recently, he updated the level to add user coins.
- NIGHTkilla’s songs often have identical structures and beats. Because of this, Nine Circles seems to synchronize perfectly with the second part of the NK song ‘Fairydust.’
- This is Zobros’ most famous level with countless remakes that have gotten noticed and featured occasionally.
- In late December 2015, Nine Circles was renamed; its capitalization was corrected from ‘Nine circles’ to ‘Nine Circles.’
- Cyclic created his version of Nine Circles, naming it Sonic Wave, but replaced it with a remake of Back on Track, apparently due to accusations of hacking. Sonic Wave was considerably harder than other Nine Circles levels, such as Down Bass or Crimson Clutter. Sonic Wave was later verified by Sunix, thus making it the new hardest Nine Circles level.
- Sonic Wave is no longer the hardest Nine Circles-themed level, as Arctic Lights, Aquatic Auroras, Aerial Gleam, The Hallucination, Cosmic Cyclone, Hyper Paracosm, Molten Core, Sakupen Circles, Sonic Wave Rebirth and Sonic Wave Infinity are all harder. Currently, Sakupen Circles is the hardest of the levels listed.
Criteria For Being Nine Circle Level:-
The following information is a general classification for star-rated levels given the “Nine Circles” designation, characterized by patterns that have appeared across all variations of past levels generally accepted as Nine Circles levels. These criteria aim to differentiate Nine Circles levels from non-Nine Circles levels (some of which are just “Nine Circles-themed”) using analytical and statistical data for consistent and logical classification.
Level Structure
- Wave is a prominent part of Nine Circles levels. The average amount of wave percent in a Nine Circles level is 50.5%. The rule only demands a threshold of greater than 25% to allow for liberty in creation. 25% was determined based on the theory that, psychologically, humans recognize something as having prominence when it is within the Top 3 of a larger category.
The level must not begin with the wave game-mode
- The buildup to the wave section, usually accompanied by a buildup to a drop in the music, always consists of non-wave gameplay. Analysis of every currently rated Nine Circles Demon shows that none of these levels have ever begun with a wave.
Decoration
- Every single rated Nine Circles demon features diamond blocks to create the actual corridors the wave passes through. The blocks appear in the level as diamonds in the center or large triangles on the top or bottom. The whole block is pitched at either a 45-degree or 60-degree angle to match the wave or mini-wave respectively. This structure differs from the type of structuring in wave parts in levels such as ZAPHKIEL, where the lines forming the wave corridors are pitched at the angles of the wave, but the larger block piece is not. The structuring is appropriate if the lines denoting the wave corridors extend all the way to the edges of the block or the floor/ceiling of the level. Diamond block structuring can be understood even better by referring to the many different types of structuring used in wave sections that are not diamond block structuring. Refer to these examples:
- Spike and Pillar structuring: Use of spike objects and vertical pillars to create wave gameplay
- Examples: The Golden (28%-35%), Hatred (23%-34%)
- Slanted Pillar Structuring: Use of slanted pillars to create wave gameplay:
- Examples: Cold Sweat (61%-87%), Cataclysm (6%-15%, 75%-84%)
- Rectangular Block Structuring: Rectangular blocks are mainly used to structure the wave. The wave corridors themselves may have used slanted lines, but the surrounding objects are rectangular blocks.
- Examples: All wave sections in ZAPHKIEL, Slaughterhouse (63%-67%)
- Spike and Pillar structuring: Use of spike objects and vertical pillars to create wave gameplay
